Game Recap: Football |

Trojans blank Blue Bears

Ettrick, Va.- The Virginia State University football team held Livingstone College to only 132 total yards of offense in a 33-0 win on a windy and rainy Saturday night.

To start the game both teams tried to figure out the elements as the first two drives for both teams ended with punts. On VSU's third drive they drove down the field for a seven-play drive that was capped off with a fourth down conversion on a 23-yard passing touchdown for Steve Williams to Tylique Ray.

Williams would score with his legs next on the Trojans first drive in the second quarter. He capped off an 11-play 80-yard drive with a one-yard quarterback sneak to give VSU a 13-0 lead as the point after attempt was altered by the wind. That would be the halftime score as the defense shut down any attempt LC made.

Neither team would score in the third quarter, but just before the end of the quarter Livingstone went out to punt, but due to the wet ball the punter could never get a good grip on the ball and had to fall on it at Livingstone 17-yard line.

Given a short field the VSU offense only needed two plays to get in the end zone as Jimmyll Williams rushed for a five-yard touchdown. Then just five minutes later the backup quarterback Jordan Davis found Malik Hunter wide open in the back of the end zone for a seven-yard passing touchdown. That capped off a 10-play 45-yard drive.

The final score of the night for Virginia State came after a partially blocked punt for Marquis Edmond, which set up the offense on the 16-yard line. It only took one play for Rayquan Smith to rush the 16-yards for a touchdown.

With the win VSU stays undefeated at 4-0 and Livingstone drops to 0-4. The Trojans travel to Shaw University next Saturday, September 30 with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
