Raleigh, N.C.- The Virginia State University football team dominated on all three sides of the ball as they defeated St. Augustine's University 55-12. As a team the Trojans rushed for just under 200 yards on offense.
VSU scored first as they capped off a 10 play 86-yard drive with a 30-yard pass from Steve Williams to Malik Hunter. SAU would answer four drives later as they returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown, but would miss the PAT.
Neither team would score in the second quarter, making the halftime score being 7-6 in favor of VSU. However, in the third quarter the Trojans opened the flood gates. They would score on a four-play drive with Williams second passing touchdown this one to Roy Jackson III. The next drive would be a quick hitter as it only took two plays for Williams to score with his legs this time. Finally, Rayquon Smith got in on the action capping off a 12-play drive with a five-yard touchdown run.
After all, said and done the score stood at 34-6 after three quarters. To start the fourth quarter scoring Quedrion Miles would pick off the Falcons QB and run it back for a touchdown. The Falcons would get their first points on offense as they drove down the field with a 12 play 60-yard drive capped off with a one-yard touchdown run. Jimmyll Williams scored the last touchdown of the game with a 15-yard scamper into the endzone.
With the win VSU stays undefeated at 3-0 and SAU's moves down to 0-3. Next week the Trojans play under the lights at home as they take on the Blue Bears of Livingstone College on Saturday September 23 at 6:00 p.m.
