Trojans Split Doubleheader at Lincoln

ETTRICK, VA- VSU Softball splits the final regular season doubleheader on the road against Lincoln University tonight, with a shutout in game one.
 
Game 1 Final Score: Trojans 4 – Lions 5
Team Stat Snapshot: VSU 4 hits, 4 RBIs – Lions 12 hits, 4 RBIs
Player Highlights: Nia Hall landed a pair of hits and an RBI, while Kyla Graves scored two runs, 1 hit, and an RBI.
 
How It Happened: The Trojans opened up the game with a single from Hailey Darrington off a bunt at the top of the first inning that later resulted in a run for Darrington to put VSU on the scoreboard. 
 
The Lions responded back with three hits, a stolen base, and an advance off an error, but VSU managed to hold LU to a single run knotting the score at 1-all going into the second inning. 
 
Freshman Kyla Graves gave the Trojans a burst of momentum with a home run to left field at the top of the second inning to give VSU a 2-1 edge. 
 
Lincoln scored back-to-back runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead.
 
A single from Hall set up Pratt to score for the Trojans at the top of the third inning tieing the game 3-all, while VSU held LU to a scoreless third inning. 
 
Having a great game, Graves was able to advance off an error and score a run to put the Trojans up 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning, but Lincoln tied the game off a sacrifice fly at the bottom of the fourth.
 
Despite a tough fight, the Lions captured the final point of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning after a double.

Team Stat Snapshot: VSU 7 hits, 2 RBIs – Lions 5 hits, 0 RBIs
Player Highlights: Alani Horton and Macy Beville each recorded a pair of hits. Kara Green won on the mound pitching all seven innings with six strikeouts and allowing five hits.
 
How It Happened: Both teams struggled to put up runs, enduring five scoreless innings. 
 
Despite their struggles, the Trojans were able to get some action going at the top of the second, third, and fifth innings but were forced to leave two on base in all three innings. 
 
Although the game was not going in either team's favor, the Trojans stepped up and handled business in the sixth inning scoring all four runs of the game as Alaysha McKnight, Skye Corum, Graves, and Darrington each hustled home. 
 
The Trojans return will return to action May 5-7 for the CIAA Softball Championship tournament. More information will be available on the website after the brackets are released.
