Women's Tennis Bounce Back in Singles Play Defeating UVA Wise

WISE COUNTY, VA- The Women's Tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a gritty 4-3 win on the road against UVA-Wise Sunday. 
 
The Trojans improved to an 11-3 overall record, 9-1 in the CIAA. 
 
UVA Wise clinched the doubles point after the Trojans got off to a tough start on the day. Jaycee Gaither and Anijah Burgo won their matchup 6-0 on court 2.
 
Despite the rough start, the Trojans were able to pull the victory off after winning the last four singles matches. 
 
Ashleigh Charles dropped the No.1 position 8-1 and Jayce Gaither took an 8-1 loss at the No. 2 position.
 
Feeling the pressure, VSU maintained their composure as Ginger Johnson went toe to toe with Lucy Cunliffe at the No. 3 position keeping VSU alive after clinching the win 8-6. 
 
Jalyn Jones secured the No. 4 position 8-2 and Anijah Burgo won the No. 5 position 8-3. 
 
Freshman Alexcie Burrows finished the job for the Trojans with an 8-1 win at the No. 6 position.
 
The Trojans will have a brief break before the CIAA Championship on April 21-22 hosted on the campus of Virginia State University.
