The Trojans baseball team is currently riding a 3 game winning streak. Twenty games into the season, the Trojans currently hold a 12-8 record. Offensively the team is led by Sophomore Sensation Tahraun Hammond. Tahraun is batting .385 while leading the team in hits with 25, walks with 15, and is tied for the team lead in runs with 12. Hot on his tracks is Ricky Jones who comes in batting .343 leading the team in doubles with 5, while tying Hammond for the team lead with 12 runs.Â
    Virginia States success on the baseball diamond has been recognized Nationally. The Trojans are currently ranked fifth in the Black Colleges Nines Small School Poll. Staying near the top of the poll has been a goal for the Trojans. The top-eight HBCU small schools will be invited to the 2023 Black College World Series. The HBCU Baseball Championships will be held in Montgomery, Alabama May 10-13, 2023.
    In addition to being ranked by the Black College Poll, Virginia State also received votes in the latest Atlantic Region Poll. This is the second time the Trojans have received votes this season. Competing at the independent level it is not easy being noticed, yet the Trojans early season success has been recognized.Â
    The Trojans are preparing for a home series vs Lion University. The Lions, who were once a member of the CIAA baseball conference enter the weekend with a 5-13-1 record. First pitch is slated for Saturday March 25th for a 1pm doubleheader.Â
