MURFREESBORO, NC (February 4, 2023)- The Virginia State University softball team opened their 2023 season on the road with a matchup against the Hawks of Chowan University. Despite the Trojans moving to a 0-2 record after falling to the Hawks, Reina Washington gave VSU their first run of the season.

It was cold start to the Trojans season, for the temperature and game, as they took an 8-0 no hitter loss to Chowan.

In game 2, although the Hawks had scoring action in the 1^st and 2^nd inning, the Trojans froze the home team's momentum in the 3^rd inning, with 3 up and 3 down.

VSU got on the board in the 4^th inning as a result of a double by Reina Washington, followed by a double from Skye Corum. The play advanced Washington home and gave Corum an RBI.

Chowan went on to secure 4 runs in the bottom of the 4^th inning and 3 runs in the 5^th, giving the Trojans a 9-1 loss.

VSU will return to action on February 17-19 for the HBCU CIAA/SIAC Tournament in Orangeburg, SC.
