ELIZABETH CITY, NC (January 29. 2023) – The Virginia State women's bowling team secured 2 wins during the CIAA Event II hosted by Elizabeth City State University on Jan. 27-29. The Trojans defeated Virginia Union University in their northern division tradition matches. Overall, VSU finished the weekend with a 2-10 record.
On Day 1, VSU faced tough competition early, as their first match of the day was against the CIAA reigning champions, Bowie State. The match ended in favor of the Bulldogs with a score of 841-512. Match 2 was a battle as the Trojans were just a few pins short of a victory over Virginia Union, 565-534. VSU faced the event hosts, ECSU, taking a 667-473 loss in Match 3 and a 776-454 Match 4 loss to Bowie State. The final match of day 1 gave the Trojans the rhythm they needed as they faced the VUU Panthers. Redeeming themselves from Match 2, the Trojans earned a 561-438 victory over Virginia Union.
Although the first match of Day 2 was a 680-468 loss to ECSU, VSU rolled back around to take down Virginia Union with a score of 585-526. The Trojans fell short for the remainder of day 2 in their matchups with Bowie State (771-504) and Elizabeth City State (671-533).
On Day 3, although the Trojans did not secure a win over their CIAA Northern Division opponents, they did collect a pin fall of 1,485.
VSU will return to the lanes on February 17-19 for the CIAA Roundup in Charlotte, NC.
