ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State baseball team racked up five end-of-the-year baseball honors in the New South Athletic Conference (NSAC). Three players were named to the All-NSAC First Team while two players were named to the All-NSAC Second Team. VSU tied for the most amount of players to receive postseason honors from the NSAC.
 

Opposing teams played the fence when Ricky Jones stepped up to bat as he maintained a .364 batting average, which ranks him second on the team. Jones leads the squad in home runs (5), total bases (76), slugging percentage (.589), RBI (34), and triples (2). He has collected 12 multi-hit games this season. After a five-game hitting slump for the slugger, he ended the season with a six-game hitting streak. Jones enjoyed a team-high eight-game hitting streak from February 26 - March 20. Jones posted three, three-hit ball games along with a pair of four-hit ball games as well. He was also a vacuum in the outfield as well with 84 put outs on the season with no errors. His best game came against Clark Atlanta early in the season when he went 4-7 with two homers, three runs scored and three RBI. He also plans to play his summer baseball in the premier Coastal Plains League (CPL) for the Tri-City Chili Peppers. 
 

The super freshman, Tahraun Hammond led the team in a host of categories such as batting average (.369), at-bats (130), runs (37), hits (48), walks (28), doubles (14), on-base percentage (.494) and on-base slugging percentage (1.056). Hammond also has a lively arm on the mound as the reliever has accounted for 22 strikeouts while giving up just 16 hits. The young player started every game this season while boasting hitting streaks a four-games on two separate occasions. Hammond's best game hitting came against Clark Atlanta where we went 4-5 with three runs and RBI. His best game on the mound was against MACU when the middle reliever stepped in for 3.2 innings and earned four strikeouts while only giving away one hit and no runs. Hammond was also named Rookie of the Year by his teammates and coaches and plans to play in the MBP HBCU All-Star game in Truist park. He also plans to play his summer baseball in the premier Coastal Plains League (CPL) for the Tri-City Chili Peppers. 


Dawsyn Hock maintains a batting average of .360, which ranks him second on the team. He has had four games this season where he batted 1.000 with more than one at-bat in the contest. Hock drove in 23 runs (T-2nd on team) and adds a home run to hit statline. He maintained a slugging percentage of .484 along with an on-base percentage of .417. He earned New South Athletic Conference honors after going 8-of-8 with three doubles, five runs RBI and a home run in the doubleheader against Christendom. 
 

Grayson "Cole" Spain  gave batters fits all season ranking within the top-50 in the country with 87 strikeouts. Spain allowed team to hit just .187 against him in 62 innings of work this season which ranked him with in the top-35 in the countryinnings pitched. Spain and Nicholas Woolfolk combined for the first no-hitter recorded since the 2019 season. He earned a career-high and record-breaking 13 strikeouts in the walk-off win against Bluefield State. Grayson "Cole" Spain is also ninth in country in strikeouts per nine innings with 13.52. 


Nicholas Woolfolk was the ace of the rotation this past season as he maintained a miraculous 3.04 ERA in 68 innings (top-30 in the country). The senior led his squad with six wins along with only four losses. Woolfolk and Grayson "Cole" Spain  recorded a no-hitter in the walk-off win against Bluefield State. Woolfolk has only given up 23 earned runs and 18 walks this season while allowing batters to hit just .241 against him. He also earned 58 strikeouts in 14 appearances this season. 


Awards for each All-Conference player will be handed out at the tournament in Elizabeth City.
