Trojans Split Doubleheader with Lincoln (Pa.), Pratt Earns Shutout After Nearly Tossing a No-Hitter

ETTRICK, VA  – The Trojans were bested by the Lions by the Lions in game one 10-4 after scoring four runs on seven hits with an error while LU scored 10 runs on 13 hits with an error as well. The Trojans were able to get back to themselves in game two after mercy ruling the Lions 13-0 in only five innings. VSU scored 13 runs on 15 hits with a pair of errors while Lincoln (Pa.) was held scoreless and only accounted for a hit with no errors. Alaijah Pratt earned her second shutout of the year in game two.


Game 1
After a scoreless first inning, the Lions were able to get on the board first on a throwing error by the VSU catcher. LU would later single to second base to score their second run of the inning with one out. The Lions would then add to their lead with a single into center field. With two outs, Lincoln (Pa.) drove in a pair of runs on another single into center field to cap a five-run inning. After a 1-2-3 inning in the second, the Trojans went on to cut the deficit to four runs when Serenity Barbee scored on an error made by the LU shortstop to make the score 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs in the top of the fifth inning, the Lions tripled into right center field to score a run. On the next at-bat, LU scored another run on a single into right field to make the score 7-1. After Nia Hall and Macy Beville reached on a pair of singles, Desmyn Owens belted a ball deep into the trees beyond the left center field fence to make the score 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions immediately extended their lead after a double into left center field, which scored runs from second and third base. Lincoln (Pa.) would add to their lead with a single into left center field to make the score 10-4 in the top of the seventh inning. The Lions were able to hold the Trojans scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the final score 10-4.

Game 2
Both teams were held to no runs in the first two innings but the Trojans broke the scoreless tie after Julia Jones doubled into left field to score Desmyn Owens to make the score 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Through four innings, Alaijah Pratt only allowed just one hit. The Trojans were finally able to wake their bats up in bottom of the fourth inning after Desmyn Owens singled into right field with the bases loaded to score Macy Nia Hall. Next up, Samantha Cunningham drove Macy Beville in to score on a single into center field. After that, Leah Harrison singled down the right field line to bring Julia Jones in to make it 6-0. After the Lions made a pitching change, Alani Horton got comfortable quickly with the new arm as she doubled in the right center field to score Alaija Pratt and Leah Harrison. Macy Beville went on to single into right center field to allow Alani Horton to score. On the next at-bat, Nia Hall scored her second run of the inning on a Desmyn Owens single. Macy touched home plate for the second time in the inning as well scoring on a ground out off the bat of Samantha Cunningham. Julia Jones earned her third RBI of the inning as she singled into center field to score Desmyn Owens for her second time in the inning. After Leah Harrison drove Julia Jones in for her second time in the inning, the Lions eventually got their last out as the Trojans ended the bottom of the fourth inning with 12 runs, 12 hits and one runner left on base to make it 13-0. Alaijah Pratt nearly struck out the side to end the game with the score at 13-0.
