Trojans Take One of Two Against Mustangs

Elizabeth City, NC  – The Trojans split the series on the road at Mid-Atlantic Christian on Saturday. The Trojans really unloaded on the Mustangs in the first game winning 19-5 as a season-high four homeruns left the park for the Trojans which is the first time in recent history four different players went yard in a game. The squad might have scored too many runs in the first game as they fell a run short in the second game 6-5.   

Game 1
The Trojans came out with a purpose as they struck first in the top of the first inning as Dawsyn Hock singled to score Carl "Chip" Granderson . Ricky Jones and Dawsyn Hock would later come around to score off a single from the bat of Christian Henderson to go up 3-0. In the top of the second inning, Avante Banks put a bomb over the left field fence for a solo homerun to start the inning. On the very next at-bat, Tahraun Hammond belted one well over the left field fence to give himself and Banks their first homeruns of the season. The score was now 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning. Nicholas Woolfolk squared up on a ball and put it over the left field fence for the first homerun of his career to score Chase Moore. David Johnson used his speed to get on the board scoring on a passed ball. Avante Banks came touched home plate prior to Tahraun Hammond scoring on ground out by Ricky Jones to make the score 10-0 in the top of the third inning. MACU homered to make the score 10-1 in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the fourth inning, Christian Henderson scored on a passed ball to make the score 11-1. The Mustangs would go on to fight back scoring on an error and a ground out to make the score 11-3. Carl "Chip" Granderson scored Mile Burton on a sacrifice fly ball to right field to make it 12-3. The Trojans would pop the top off again as Morris Ford, Jr. got VSU started scoring on a wild pitch. Nicholas Woolfolk would later score on an error made by a shortstop. With Bryce Wilmoth, Pedro Mendez and Avante Banks occupying the base paths, John Newman decided it was a good time to put the ball over the deepest part of the ballpark for a grand slam. After scoring six runs on three hits and an error, the Trojans went into the bottom of the sixth inning with an 18-3 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, MACU homered over center field fence to make the score 18-4. John Newman was able to score David Johnson on a single into right field to make it 19-4 in the top of the seventh inning. After scoring on a single to third base, MACU took the loss in game two 19-5.

Game 2
Tahraun Hammond broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the first inning after scoring on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0. After holding the Trojans scoreless for an inning, they got back hot as Ricky Jones scored Carl "Chip" Granderson on a double into center field. Jones would later come around to score himself to make the score 3-0 in the top of the third inning. The Mustangs scored their first run of the game on a bases loaded walk. Next up, MACU scored on a line drive into left field. The Mustangs took another free run on a bases loaded walk. MACU stole home on back-to-back pitches to give the Mustangs a 6-3 lead. Tahraun Hammond went on to close the gap with a sacrifice line out to center field to make the score 6-4 in the top of the fourth inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Avante Banks scored Christian Henderson on a ground out to make the score just 6-5. In the top of the seventh, with two outs, the Trojans were caught stealing to end the game with the score at 6-5.
