Ettrick, VA – The Virginia State Men's Tennis team will travel to the 757 to take on Norfolk State (0-10) and Hampton (2-13). VSU will start with NSU at the NSU Tennis Complex on Saturday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. prior to crossing the bridge to Hampton to face the Pirates at Neilson-Screen Stadium at 4:00 p.m. This will be the first match the Trojans will take part in this month after having their last two matches postponed.
Virginia State (0-2) is coming off a rough 7-0 loss to Shaw in Raleigh, NC on Friday, March 25. Laurance Britt and Nigel Stewart were able to take two games off their opponents but fell 6-2 on court #1 in doubles. On court #3, Jalen Bell took a game in both sets but fell 6-1 while Joshua Pologne also took a loss 6-1 in both sets.
Norfolk State has had a rough go of things so far this season after being shutout in six matches this season. The Spartans nearly took down Coppin State in the MEAC Tennis Round-Up but ultimately fell 4-3. This will be the first match-up between the two teams. Federico Rebecchini hold the best record on the team as he is 4-6 playing on court on one but he is currently on a four-match losing streak. Federico Rebecchini and Hugo Massoni – Lena currently lead the team with a 2-5 record in doubles but have lost four-straight matches as well.
Hampton has not seen much success this season but boast a 4-0 win over Norfolk State and a 7-2 win over Randolph-Macon. The Pirates are 1-0 against non-division one opponents but are 0-5 inside of Neilson-Screen Stadium. The Trojans are 0-1 against the Pirates in matchups dating back to 2012. The Pirates took down the Trojans 4-3. Donte Armbrister is 4-0 in singles on the season playing on courts three and four. The Pirates are currently 3-25 in doubles as the tandem of Cliff Dwyer, Donte Armbrister, Jeremiah Williams and Ange-Kevin Koua have accumulated the three wins for the Pirates.
