Ettrick, VA – The Virginia State Women's Tennis team will hit the road to face off against Johnson C. Smith (9-9) on Wednesday, April 27 at 12:00 p.m. in the Quarterfinals of the CIAA Women's Tennis Championship.
Virginia State (6-4) is looking to end a three-match losing streak against the one and two seeds in, Shaw and Bowie State. The squad was swept 4-0 against Shaw on Sunday and was beat 4-0 and 4-1 in the doubleheader against Bowie State on Monday. That being said, the Trojans were on a three-match win streak which included a shutout against WSSU before sweeping ECSU 4-0 and 4-2.
Jayce Gaither leads her team in singles with a 7-1 record on court three.
Zimaris Smith is second behind Gaither with a 5-2 record on the fourth singles court.

While Johnson C. Smith is 9-9 on the season, they are 8-2 in conference play. The Golden Bulls went undefeated in the CIAA Tennis Round-Up beating Bowie State, ECSU and Virginia Union as they only dropped one match on the first singles court. JCSU is 4-4 since the CIAA Tennis Round-Up and boast seven shutouts this season. The Trojans are 6-6 against the Golden Bulls in matchups dating back to 2011. While the Trojans started the series on a six-match winning-streak, they have now dropped the last six including the 4-0 loss to JCSU earlier this season. VSU will look to earn their first road win against JCSU, as they are now 0-2 in Charlotte, NC.
If the Trojans advance, they will take on Bowie State on Friday, April 29 in the Semifinals of the CIAA Women's Tennis Championship hosted on the campus of Virginia State University. .
