Trojans Drop Doubleheader to UMO

Mount Olive, N.C.  – The Trojans losing streak was extended to six games as UMO managed to shutout VSU in the doubleheader. The Trojans gave up 17 hits in the game one loss and dropped the second 8-0.


Game 1
UMO got themselves started in the bottom of the first inning scoring four runs on four hits to take a 4-0 lead. After a three-up-three-down inning for Virginia State, UMO went on to score four more runs in the bottom of the second inning, which gave them an 8-0 lead. Tahraun Hammond and Chase Moore earned back-to-back singles in the top of the third inning with two outs but were unable to come around to score. After being held scoreless in the third inning, UMO exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits to extend their lead to 14-0. The bottom of the fifth inning saw UMO add four more runs on five hits to make the score 18-0. After Miles Burton entered the game to pinch hit, he sliced a single into right center field. The Trojans would fail to get a runner in scoring position in the top of the sixth inning. The two teams were held scoreless through the last two innings to give the final score of 18-0.

Game 2
In the bottom of the first inning, UMO took a three-run lead with four hits and an error. The bottom of the third inning saw UMO extend their lead to 6-0 scoring three runs on two hits. The home team went on to add a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits which made the score 8-0. The top of the sixth inning saw the Trojans earn their first hit of the game as Tahraun Hammond doubled into left field. VSU was held scoreless throughout the remainder of the game, which gave UMO their second win of the day 8-0.
