Trojans Explode in Doubleheader Against WAU

ETTRICK, VA  – The Trojans were able to even their record at 4-4 after dusting Washington Adventist in back-to-back games. VSU defeated the Shock 11-4 in the first game then swiftly beat them 12-1 in game two of the doubleheader.



Game 1
The Trojans came out swinging as Alani Horton found room in left field for a double to score Hailey Darrington to make the score 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Shock answered in the top of the second inning with a sacrifice fly ball to center field to make the score 1-1 in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Machenze Flood scored Nia Hall on a sacrifice fly ball to center field to give the Trojans the lead, 2-1. The Shock would immediately knot the score at two with an RBI single in the top of the third inning. The bottom of the third inning, Hailey Darrington was able to give the Trojans the lead back as she came home to score on a passed ball. Macy Beville was able to drive Alaija Pratt in to make the score 4-2 as well. After a three up, three down inning, Alaija Pratt scored Machenze Flood on a single. Alani Horton then squared up on a ball to bring Pratt and Darrington in the score. Desmyn Owens and Horton put a bow on the huge inning the make the score 9-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Down but not out, the Shock drove a run home on a triple into center field. Another run would come around the score on an error by the short stop to make it 9-4 in the top of the fifth inning. The bottom of the fifth inning, Darrington scored on a single to the shortstop by Alani Horton. Pratt then scored on a sacrifice fly ball to right field to make the score 11-4. Heading into the top of the sixth inning. The Trojans would hold the shock scoreless in the last two innings to make the final score 11-4.

Game 2
After a scoreless inning, the Trojans got on the board first with a Leah Harrison single into left field to bring Desmyn Owens home to score the game's first run. The next at-bat, Macy Beville scored to make it 2-0 heading into the top of the third inning. The Shock made a push for the lead in the top of the third as they scored a run on a heads up play by the baserunner to bring the score to 2-1. In the bottom of the third inning, the Trojans exploded accumulating eight hits while scoring nine runs to bring the score to 11-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Nia Hall scored on a passed ball to add an insurance run to make the score 12-1. In the top of the fifth inning, the eight-run rule kicked in as the Shock were held scoreless which gave the Trojans the win 12-1.
