Ettrick, VA – The Virginia State Women's Tennis team will hit the road to face off against Elizabeth City State (2-3) on Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m.
Virginia State (1-0) is coming off a 5-2 victory against Virginia Union in their season opener. VSU got off to a good start, claiming 2-of-3 doubles matches after losing a match due to a forfeit. The Trojans would go on to pick up three singles matches while dropping two due to forfeits. Jayce Gaither and Ginger Johnson won their singles matches, 6-0 and 6-1. Ginger Johnson and Ashleigh Charles teamed up to win their doubles match, 6-0 and 6-1, while Jayce Gaither and Zimaris Smith won their doule match by an identical score of 6-0 and 6-1. The Trojans have had their last six matchups postponed or canceled including their four matches in the CIAA Round-Up.
Elizabeth City State (2-3) has experienced success as of late as they come fresh off a win against Winston-Salem 4-3. The Vikings went 2-2 in the CIAA Round-Up after they were able to grind out a couple wins by a score of 4-3 against Livingstone and Winston-Salem State. Keeley Weber and Andrea Nevola have the best records on the team, as they both stand tall at 2-2. In matches dating back to 2010, the Trojans are 20-0 against Elizabeth City State. The Vikings have not won a single match against the Trojans since 2011 when they lost to VSU 8-1.
