ETTRICK, VA – The Trojans were just three runs away from earning their first home sweep of the season in the three-game series against Mid-Atlantic Christian. VSU earned a pair of wins on the first day of the series, 5-2 and 8-6, before dropping the most recent game, 5-7.
Game 1
Joshua Tayman gave the Trojans the first lead of the game as he scored
David Johnson on a ground out to third base. On the next at-bat,
Dawsyn Hock singled into right field to score
Ricky Jones to give VSU a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. In the bottom of the third inning,
David Johnson scored his second run of the game on a double into right field off the bat of
Ricky Jones. This made the score 3-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning.
Tahraun Hammond would come around to score as
Dawsyn Hock picked up his second RBI of the game to make the score 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Mustangs would fight back in the top of the sixth inning as MACU would score on an errant throw to first throw by the first base man and a sacrifice fly ball to right field to make the score 4-2.
Kevon Wharton would add an insurance run on a bad pickoff throw by the pitcher to make the score 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Trojans got on the board first yet again in the bottom of the first inning as
David Johnson scored on a grounder to the short stop by
Tahraun Hammond to make the score 1-0. In the bottom of the second inning,
Christian Henderson singled into the left center field gap to score
Dawsyn Hock to make the score 2-0.
Tahraun Hammond turned on a pitch for a double into left field to score
David Johnson for the second time.
Joshua Tayman followed up with a double of his own into left field as well to score
Tahraun Hammond to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Trojans would break the game wide open as
Tahraun Hammond singled into center field to score
Christian Henderson from third base.
Joshua Tayman followed up with a double into left field to score
Carl Granderson and
Tahraun Hammond.
Dawsyn Hock scored Tayman from second base to push the Trojans lead to 8-0. With the game seemingly out of reach, the Mustangs scored their first run of the game on a single into center field followed by another RBI single into left field. MACU would go on to score two more runs prior to a double into the right center field gap to make the score 8-5. The Mustangs would make one more push for the lead as they scored on a sacrifice line out to make the score 8-6.
Rashard Miller would hold the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 8-6.

Game 3
In the top of the second inning, the VSU center fielder lost the ball in the sun which allowed the Mustangs to score their first run on an inside the park home run. Later that inning, MACU singled into right field to score their second run of the game. To end the inning, the Mustangs scored two runs on a single to third base to make the score 4-0. The Trojans scored their first run of the day as
Joshua Tayman scored on an errant throw from the MACU shortstop to make the score 4-1 in the bottom of the second inning. The Mustangs would go on to match that in the top of the fourth inning on a single into center field to stretch their lead out to 5-1. MACU would score their sixth and seventh runs in the top of the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles to make the score 7-1. With time running out, the Trojans cut into the MACU lead as
Chase Moore scored
Joshua Tayman on single.
David Johnson would then bring
Nicholas Woolfolk and Morris Ford in to score on a grounder to second base. The bottom of the seventh inning ended with
Chase Moore scoring on an errant throw from the third base man to make the score 7-5. The Trojans were held scoreless through the last two innings to make the final score 7-5.
