Virginia State University (3-0) will make their first road trip of the season to go take the Barton College Bulldogs (3-7), Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

• Joshua Tayman and Cecil Henderson will look to extend their hitting streaks to 4 games against Barton College.
• Daniel Dunn recorded his first career hit in the 15-5 victory, Tuesday afternoon against Lincoln University (Pa).
• The Trojans have three players in Kevin Russell, Joshua Tayman and Cecil Henderson with a batting average of .300 or better after the weekend series against the Lions.
• Jeremiah Hardy was lights out in the first game of the 2021 season against Lincoln (Pa). He picked up the complete game victory in eight innings of work while only giving up six hits and striking out nine in the 3-2 victory in extra innings.
• Freshman Pitcher Robert Hatcher was dealing in his first career start against Lincoln University (Pa) with the help of a few diving catches from his outfield and strong play from his infield. Hatcher pitched six shutout innings with four strikeouts in the 15-5 victory.
• VSU allowed six batters to have multi-hit games in the 2020 matchup.
• Nate McKendrick only gave up 1 hit in four innings pitched in his win against the Trojans in 2020.

 
 
About Barton
The Barton College Bulldogs are on a two-game losing streak heading into the matchup. On the offensive end, the team is led by Dylan Scaranda who upholds a .333 batting average along with seven runs and 10 RBIs. Andre Machado is also swinging a hot bat with his .326 batting average and seven RBIs. On the defensive end Jared Davis, a Junior Pitcher who's undefeated on the season and only allows his opponents a batting average of .227. The Bulldogs are led by Head Coach, Keith Gorman who is in his second year as Barton Head Baseball Coach in 2021.  Last season, the Bulldogs finished 12-12 overall in Gorman's initial (abbreviated) season. Gorman took over as Bulldogs' mentor after leading Cumberland County (N.J.) College to the 2019 NJCAA Division III National Championship.  For his efforts, Gorman was named the 2019 ABCA/Diamond National Coach of the Year for NJCAA Division III.


 
Last Meeting
The Barton baseball team (8-8) rallied from a six-run deficit to defeat Virginia State (7-9), 12-8, Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field. Barton senior outfielder Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.) hit two home runs and finished with four runs batted in while senior catcher Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) broke an eight-all tie with the game-winning, two-run double in the seventh inning to lead the Bulldogs to the win. A three-error first inning by Barton and a solo home run from Virginia State's Keyon Smith (Richmond, Va.) in the third frame helped stake the Trojans to a 6-0 advantage before the Bulldogs began their rally. On the mound, Barton senior Nate McKenrick (Lake City, Pa.) (1-0) pitched over four innings of scoreless relief to earn the win while Virginia State's Andrew Riddick (Suffolk, Va.) was tagged with the loss.  Barton also totaled 16 hits in the contest to snap a three-game losing streak.
