Box Score ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University women's tennis team have claimed the 2019 CIAA Northern Division Title, after defeating the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on April 11, with a 7-0 sweep. This is the second consecutive year the Trojans have captured this honor.
The duet of Sydney Yao and Kaela Mack, as well as Christina Washington and Deja Lovitt, stayed evenly matched in the doubles for a 6-3 win over the Vikings.
VSU took charge in the No. 1-4 singles with a consecutive 6-0 win in their games. Giving the Trojans their 7th point of the day for the match sweep was Zimaris Smith as the No. 5 single with a 2 game score of 6-3.
Although named divisional champs, the Trojans still have a single non-conference and 3 out-of-division contests to face before the 2019 CIAA Championship on May 2-4 in Bowie, MD.
Under the leadership of head coach Donald Raspberry, the Trojans will continue to progress on the season in hopes of being named the 2019 CIAA Champions.
