HOOPS CENTRAL: Virginia State vs Shaw University

ETTRICK, Va. (February 4, 2019) –  The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will host the Bears of Shaw University (SU) at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The women's game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

The Women's Game: The Trojans (9-11, 3-8 CIAA, 1-4 North) fell to the Lady Lions of Lincoln University (LU), 51-49, at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Feb. 2.  The Trojans was led by senior forward Chrisanna Green securing a double-double performance recording 16 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals.  
 
Green scored 16 points in 38 minutes of play. The Jamestown, New York native was four-for-nine from the floor and eight-for-10 from the free throw line. Autumn Hopson and Yazmen Hannah both recorded nine points each respectively.
  
Shaw women's basketball team (5-17, 0-12 CIAA, 0-7 South) suffered a 89-58 loss to the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Feb. 2. Two players finished in double figures in scoring for Shaw led by junior Macy Keen who tallied 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks while junior Victoria Swanson contributed a season-high 14 points including 3-of-3 from 3-point line, eight rebounds and five assists.

The last time the two schools met was last season where the Trojans collected a 64-47 victory over the Lady Bears on Jan. 31, 2018.
 
The Men's Game: The Trojans (19-3, 11-0 CIAA, 5-0 North) defeated the Lions of Lincoln University, 85-75, at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Feb. 2. Jalen Jackson finished with 18 points on 6-of-12 shots from the field to go along with five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Cedric Wiggins posted a 17-point performance, to go with seven rebound, two assists and one steal. Cyonte Melvin and Antwan Miles finished the contest with contributing 10 points wach. Brandon Holley and William Vedder contributed eight points each respectively.
  
Shaw men (11-10, 6-6 CIAA, 5-2 South) secured a 87-84 victory over Johnson C. Smith University on Feb. 2 at Brayboy Gymnasium. Hinton hauled in the 40-point performance on 15-of-21 shooting and 8-of-9 from the free throw line while junior Davon Dillard tallied 17 points and seven rebounds and junior Derrick Randolph finished with 12 points and nine assists.
 
The last time the two schools met was last season where the Trojans suffered a 50-47 loss to the Bears on Jan. 31, 2018.
