ETTRICK, Va. (February 11, 2019) – The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will host the 2019 Alumni Winter Festival where they will face the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Saturday, Feb. 16. The women's game will tipoff at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.

The Women's Game: The Trojans (10-13, 4-10 CIAA, 2-5 North) secured a 55-49 victory over the Hawks of Chowan University (CU) at the Helms Center on Feb. 13. Junior guard
Yazmen Hannah Senior went four of eight from behind the arc and four-of-four from the line to lead Virginia State with scoring 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Juniors
Tajah Clark and
Ebony Reynolds rounded out the Trojans double digit scoring who finished with 10 points each, respectively.
The Lady Vikings women's basketball team (13-12, 5-9 CIAA, 2-5 North) suffered a tough 82-76 loss to the Lions of Lincoln University on Feb. 13. Freshman guard
Asia Deal poured in 17 of her career-high 24 points during the first half while finishing with four steals and a team-high three steals for the Vikings

The Men's Game: The Trojans (21-4, 13-1 CIAA, 6-1 North) cruised past the Hawks of Chowan University, 87-81, at the Helms Center on Feb. 13.
Jahmere Howze finished with a double-double performance with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Jalen Jackson posted a 23-point performance, to go with four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Cyonte Melvin finished the contest with contributing 13 points and six rebounds.
ECSU men (12-13, 8-6 CIAA, 2-5 North) fell to the Lions of Lincoln University on Feb. 13 at the Helms Center. Freshman guard Zahrion Blue had eight of his game-high 19 points and sophomore center Jordan Camper netted seven of his 14 points to fuel a 23-6 Lion run which leveled the score at 53-53 with 9:17 remaining. Blue also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals to his game totals.
