SALEM, WV (December 7, 2019)- The Virginia State University women's basketball team took a 92-86 loss to the Tigers of Salem University in their out of conference road matchup on December 7.

The Trojans move to a 5-5 overall record, while the Tigers advance to a 2-6 overall record.

First Half

Taking an extended lead, the Trojans dominated the court for the first quarter of the contest. Capitalizing off of the Tigers turnovers and missed shots, VSU managed to take a double-figure lead 3:53 left in the quarter. A slight shift in the score did not hinder the Trojans from ending the quarter with a 27-17 lead over Salem.

Attempting to bounce back in the second quarter, the Tigers tried to close the scoring gap. VSU stayed consistent in the quarter to maintain their lead as the game clock ticked away. The Trojans entered the locker room at halftime with a 41-35 lead over the Tigers.

Second Half

Working to uphold their lead in the third quarter, VSU held strong to their placement early in the opening minutes. A change in momentum shifted the score, tying the game twice before the Tigers jumped ahead in the final minutes. At the end of the third quarter, VSU trailed 62-59.

The final quarter ruled in favor of Salem as they extended the scoring gap over VSU. Despite attempting to regain control of the game, the Trojans fell short of a win with a final score of 92-86.
