ETTRICK, VA (October 31, 2019)- The VSU Trojans football team is gearing up to face the Hawks of Chowan University on November 2 in Murfreesboro, NC. Kickoff is set for 1pm at Garrison Stadium.

VSU is coming off of a 33-5 victory over the Lions of Lincoln University moving the Trojans to a 6-2 overall record, 3-1 in the CIAA. The Hawks will be entering the contest with 2-6 overall record and 1-4 in the CIAA after defeating the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University, 49-41.

After beginning the series in 2010, the 7-2 series record rules in favor of VSU.

Leading the Trojans offensively is senior quarterback Cordelral Cook who has completed 78-of-146 passes for 959 yards and 6 touchdowns. Darius Hagans leads the rushing charge for VSU with 528 net yards on 108 carries for 6 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Christian Nelson has collected 282 yards on 23 receptions and 2 touchdowns for the Trojans.

For Chowan, Deshaun Wethington has rushed for 958 net yards on 105 carries and 9 touchdowns. The Hawks quarterback Bryce Witt has completed 132-of-219 passes for Chowan for 1578 yards and 19 touchdowns, while Imeek Watkins tallied 544 yards on 36 receptions for 8 touchdowns.

Defensively, Zion Johnson controls the field for the Trojans with 37 total tackles, 23 solo and 14 assisted. Junior defensive end Javon Frazier leads the team with 6 sacks for 30 yards.

For the Hawks, Connor O'Brien has collected 67 total tackles, 31 solos and 36 assisted.
