ETTRICK, VA (October 18, 2019- The VSU Trojans football team is preparing for their highly anticipated game against the Bulldogs of Bowie State University for VSU Homecoming 2019. The game will kick-off on October 19 at 2:06pm at Rogers Stadium.
The Trojans are coming off of a 54-21 win over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University, moving VSU to a 5-1 overall record, 3-0 in the CIAA. The Bulldogs will be entering the contest with an undefeated 6-0 season record, 3-0 in the CIAA after defeating the Hawks of Chowan University, 64-17. After beginning the series in 1976, the 21-11 series record rules in favor of VSU.
Leading the Trojans offensively is senior quarterback
Cordelral Cook who has completed 66-of-121 passes for 825 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Darius Hagans leads the rushing charge for VSU for 410 net yards on 78 carries for 4 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Chrisian Nelson has collected 225 yards on 20 receptions and a single touchdown for the Trojans. For Bowie State, Ja'rome Johnson has rushed for 569 net yards on 68 carries and 8 touchdowns while along with completing 48-of-86 passes for the Bulldogs for 617 yards and 9 touchdowns. Bowie State's DuShon David tallied 361 yards on 22 receptions for 5 touchdowns.
Defensively, junior linebacker
William Lulu controls the field for the Trojans with 32 total tackles, 24 solo and 8 assisted. Junior defensive end
Javon Frazier leads the team with 5 sacks for 29 yards. For the Bulldogs, Anthony Howard has collected 44 total tackles, 32 solos and 12 assisted. Currently the Trojans defensive is ranked 9th among NCAA Division II, whereas the Bulldogs are 18th in the ranking.
