ETTRICK, VA (October 11, 2019)- The VSU Trojans football team is gearing up for a road match against their week 6 opponent, the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. The game will kick-off on October 12 at 1:30pm at ECSU's Roebuck Stadium.
The Trojans are coming off of a 35-0 win over the Bears of Shaw University, moving VSU to a 4-1 overall record, 2-0 in the CIAA. The Vikings will be entering the contest with a 1-4 overall record, 1-2 in the CIAA after defeating the Falcons of St. Augustine's University, 27-17.
After beginning the series in 1969, the 32-16 series record rules in favor of VSU.
Leading the Trojans offensively is senior quarterback Cordelral Cook who has completed 56-of-104 passes for 649 yards and 4 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 343 net yards on 48 carries for 4 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Kier Townsend has collected 203 yards on 13 receptions and a single touchdown.
For the Vikings, Deshan Saunders has rushed for 125 net yards on 55 carries and a single touchdown while Kedrick Patterson has completed 36-of-77 passes for the Vikings for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns. ECSU's Dajuan Greene tallied 255 yards on 19 receptions for 5 touchdowns.
Defensively, junior linebacker William Lulu controls the field for the Trojans with 31 total tackles, 23 solo and 8 assisted. Junior defensive end Javon Frazier leads the team with 3.5 sacks for 19 yards. For the Vikings, Lawrence Brown had collected 28 total tackles, 12 solos and 16 assisted.
The matchup marks the first CIAA divisional contest for both team for the 2019 season
