ETTRICK, Va. – The Virginia State University football team (0-2) will make a visit to Charlotte, N.C. to face the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University (0-2) on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Irwin Belk Complex. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.

Saturday's tilt will be the 50th meeting between the two teams. The Trojans hold a 32-12-5 series record over the Golden Bulls. The last time the two school faced each other was on September 9, 2017 with a final score of 44-6 in favor of the Trojans.
Virginia State will be playing its third road contest of the season. The Trojans are coming off a a 22-19 defeat at Division I (FCS) Robert Morris University Saturday, September 8 at Joe Walton Stadium.
Junior quarterback
Cordelral Cook (Atlanta, Ga.) accounted for one touchdown run as he threw for 180 yards on 18-of-26 pass completions. Senior wide receiver
Joshua Harris (King William, Va.) had 89 yards on seven receptions.
Defensively, the Trojans were led by senior
Kurtis Brooks (Las Vegas, Nev.) who finished with nine tackles, one interception and one break up while junior William Adams (Henrico, Va.) contributed seven tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and one breakup.
For the contest, Virginia State outgained the Colonials, 444-303 yards, including a 264-78 edge on the ground. The Trojans had a total of 12 penalties that cost them 95 yards and were 6-for-18 on third down conversions.
JCSU (0-2, 0-0) enters Saturday's contest coming off a 14-42 football loss to Benedict College at Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday night, Sept. 8. JCSU's Antonio Wallace finished with 97 passing yards and Markel Freeman rushed for 37 yards on two carries.
Following Saturday's tilt, the Trojans will head home to Rogers Stadium for its 2018 home opener against Shaw University on Sept. 29. The contest is themed Military Appreciation. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
