Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia State University men's tennis yielded a 5-4 decision to the Bears of Shaw University on March 30 at Lions Park. With the loss, the Trojans move to a 2-5 overall while the Bears improves to 2-5 season record.
Friday's clash was the second meeting between the two teams, with Shaw taking a 6-3 win over the Trojans on Mar. 24. The March 30 matchup was not an easy task for the Bears as they trailed 2-1 after doubles competition.
Shaw's Oscar Del Granado and Ngonidzashe Makambwa came away with the 8-0 victory in the no.1 doubles competition. Keon Halley and Alexzander Walker secured a 9-7 victory, followed by Jonathan Fuchs and Josh McFadden collecting a 8-6 win, giving VSU a 2-1 advantage heading into singles competition.
The Bears of Shaw University secured victories at the No. 1-4 single spots. Keon Halley collected a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the No. 5 singles for Virginia State. Alexzander Walker battled to win the No. 6 singles spot 7-6, 7-6, 10-6 for VSU. The Trojans put up a fight but the Bears were able to take the 5-4 match victory.
