Women’s Tennis Defeat Fayetteville State to Advance to Semifinals

Box Score BOWIE, Md. (April 19, 2018)- The Virginia State University women's tennis team opened the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tennis Championship with a 5-0 victory over Fayetteville State University today. The Trojans now improve to a 12-5 overall record, while Fayetteville State ends its season with a 3-10 overall record.

Virginia State swept Fayetteville State in doubles and singles competition, including (8-4, 8-0) victories in doubles No. 1-3 to go ahead with an early 3-0 lead.
              
Junior Sydney Yao (Alexandria, Virginia) won a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles for the Trojans, while sophomore Felicia Tucker (Smithfield, Virginia) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles to give VSU the 5-0 victory to advance to the next round of play.  
 
VSU will return to the courts on April 20 in the semifinals round where they will face the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. First serve is slated for 10 am.
 
The last time the two teams met was during the regular season where the Golden Bulls secured a 1-8 victory over the Trojans on March 11.
