Box Score ETTRICK, Va. - The Virginia State University women's tennis team picked up their 5th win of the 2018 season with a 9-0 road victory against Virginia Union University Wednesday afternoon. The Trojans (5-3, 3-2 CIAA) have now extended their win-streak to two-straight. The Panthers of Virginia Union slide to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the CIAA.
Virginia State swept the Panthers in doubles and singles competition, including 8-2 victories in doubles No. 1-3 to go ahead 3-0 early.
Junior Sydney Yao (Alexandria, Virginia) won a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles for the Trojans and sophomore Christina Washington (Norfolk, Virginia) was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at No. 2 singles. Senior Tamisha Richardson (Anguilla, Caribbean) topped her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while sophomore Felicia Tucker (Smithfield, Virginia) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles. Freshman Deja Lovitt (Mount Vernon, New York) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles and sophomore Katlyn Kearney (Norfolk, Virginia) won by default at No. 6 singles.
Virginia State will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 31 against Shepherd University. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
