Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – The Virginia State University men's tennis team suffered a tough 6-3 loss at home to the Bears of Shaw University on Saturday. The Trojans now moves to 2-4 on the season.
Virginia State secured the No. 3 victory in the doubles competition. Shaw took a 2-1 lead over the Trojans. Shaw's Oscar Del Granado and Ngonidzashe Makambwa picked up the first point of the match with an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles. Destine Udofe and Daniel AC also grabbed an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. VSU's Alexander Walker and
Keon Halley secured a 8-5 win.
In singles action, Oscar Del Granado was a 6-1, 6-1 victor at the No. 1 position while Ngonidzashe Makambwa won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. VSU's
Jonathan Fuchs collected a 6-1, 2-1 victory for the Trojans. Destiny Udofe earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4, followed by Enrico Baldon picking up a hard fought three-set victory, 6-2, 7-5, 10-6 to secure the win for the Bear. Closing things out for the Trojans was Alexander Walker who secured a three-set victory 6-3,6-1,10-8.
The Trojans will return to action again on Mar. 25 as they host the University of Charleston. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
