Box Score ETTRICK, Va. – The Virginia State University women's tennis team (4-3, 2-2 CIAA) picked up a 9-0 home victory over Fayetteville State University Saturday afternoon. The Broncos slide to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the CIAA.
Virginia State swept the Broncos in doubles and singles competition, including (8-1, 8-2) victories in doubles No. 1-3 to go ahead 3-0 early.
Junior Syndey Yao (Alexandria, Va.) won a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles for the Trojans and sophomore Christina Washington (Norfolk, Va.) was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 2 singles. Senior Tamisha Richardson (Anguilla, Caribbean) topped her opponent, 3-0 at No. 3 singles while sophomore Felicia Tucker (Smithfield, Va.) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Freshman Deja Lovitt (Mount Vernon, NY) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles and senior Charde Washington (Caroline County, Va. ) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Trojans will return to action on Sunday, Mar. 25 as they host the University of Charleston. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
