Trojans Suffer 51-41 Loss to the Broncos of Fayetteville State University

ETTRICK, Va. (December 15, 2018)– Despite a hard-fought game the Virginia State University women's basketball team (7-3, 1-1 CIAA) suffered a tough 51-41 to the Broncos of Fayetteville State University tonight at the VSU Multipurpose Center. 
 
Virginia State opened the contest outscoring the Broncos 10-6 after one quarter. Fayetteville State continued to put points on the board outscoring the Trojans in the second, 16-6, as Virginia State trailed 22-16 at the half. The Broncos secured a 34-27 advantage after three periods and rolled to a 51-41 victory over Virginia State.  The Trojans was led by senior forward Chrisanna Green recording her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  

Green scored 13 points in 38 minutes of play. The Jamestown, New York native was 3-of-12 from the line and finished with 14 rebounds. Autumn Hopson recorded 11 points and two rebounds.
 
Brittany Drumgoogle led the Bronocos in double figures with contributing 10 total points. Clifton  contributed nine points.
 
How It Happened
Virginia State opened the game with a 10-6 lead over Fayetteville State to close out the first quarter. Fayetteville State continued to put points on the board outscoring the Trojans in the second, 16-6, as Virginia State trailed 22-16 at the half. 
 
Chrisanna Green secured the opening basket to start the third quarter to bring the score 24-18. Green added two from the free throw line to put the Trojan within four making the score 27-23 with 6:14 left in the quarter. Virginia State then added a basket to cut FSU's lead 34-27 with just 00:28 seconds to play to end the period.  
 
Fayetteville State continued to put up points over the remaining minutes to close out the game giving them a 51-41 victory. Autumn Hopson collected a three-pointer to close out the scoring for the Trojans.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Virginia  State was 12-of-54 (22.2 percent) shooting and 11-of-22 (50 percent) from the charity stripe
> Fayetteville State University shot 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the floor and 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from the free-throw line
> Virginia State finished with seven points off FSU turnovers and seven second-chance points
> FSU tallied 12 points off VSU turnovers and 14 second-chance points
