Virginia State Cruises Past Randolph-Macon 75-67

ETTRICK, Va. – Sophomore William Vedder and Cedric Wiggins combined 28 of Virginia State's 75 points in a 75-67 exhibition victory over Randolph-Macon College tonight at the VSU Multipurpose Center.

Vedder finished with an efficient 15 points to pace the squad, shooting 7-of-10 from the field, while fellow teammate Cedric Wiggins poured in 13 points—11 of which came in the second half. Jalen Jackson closed out the in double figures scoring for the Trojans with (10).

After a lot of back and forth, the Trojans and Yellow Jackets tied the score six times in the first half. The Trojans secured the first score of the contest at the 19:31 mark on a layup by Armond Griebe. A three-pointer by Buzz Anthony with 00:03 seconds tied the game to close out the first half. Both teams were tied 33 all heading into the locker room at intermission.

Virginia State outscored the visitors 42-34 in the second period, shooting 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field to seal the exhibition win. The Trojans finished at a 49 percent (25-of-51) from the floor, and 36.8 percent (7-of -19) from the three-point line. Cedric Wiggins led with a game-high four assists, while Brandon Holley and Walter Williams had three each. In addition to shooting 7-of-10 from the field, Vedder was 1-of-1 at the free throw and added four rebounds. 

Virginia State rounds out exhibition play Friday, Nov. 2 as they travel to face the Spartans of Norfolk State University in Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
