TROJANS DOMINATED THE BLUE BEARS OF LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE

SALISBURY, NC (September 30, 2017)- The Virginia State University football team dominated the Blue Bears of Livingstone College on the road at Alumni Memorial Stadium Saturday with a 56-18 victory.
 
Virginia State (4-0, 2-0 CIAA) struck first with a 1-play, 50-yard pass from Cordelral Cook to Zachary Packer. Ceasr Alfaro took the field for an extra point, giving the Trojans an early 7-0 lead. The Trojans finished the first quarter by securing a 26-yard field goal, bring the score to 10-0.

 

The Trojans kept the same momentum in the second quarter by starting with a 50-yard touchdown pass and an extra point, growing VSU's lead to 17-0. VSU then added another touchdown on a 30-yard pass and extra point with 5:18 remaining in the quarter. Livingstone answered back by adding their first touchdown of the game on a 42-yard pass to bring the score to 24-6. Senior Trenton Cannon ran in for a touchdown on an 85 yards kickoff return. Quarterback Corderal Cook added a 14-yard run touchdown to bring the score 38-6 at the half.

 
In the third quarter, the Trojans secured a safety with 13:57 left in the quarter. Trenton Cannon then added a 38-yard run for a Trojan touchdown making the score 47-6. VSU next secured its second safety of the game with 4:24 on the clock. The Trojans continued to put points on the board as Niko Johnson connected with Kier Townsend for a 34-yard touchdown pass, bringing the score to 56-6. The Blue Bears answered by adding its final two touchdowns of the game in the last two quarters, closing out the game with a 56-18 score.

 

The Trojans had a total of 19 first downs, 140 total rushing yards, 284 total passing yards, and 424 total offensive yards. Offensively, the Trojans were led by Niko Johnson who secured 202 total yard and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Trojans were led by Vincent Parker who recorded six total tackles, followed by Brandon Lynch with five tackles and Will Adams with four. 
 

VSU will travel to Elizabeth City, NC to take on the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, October 7, 2017.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
