VSU Women’s Tennis Fall 5-1 to the Lady Bears in the Second Round

BOWIE, Md. – The Virginia State University women's tennis team fell short 5-1 to the Lady Bears of Shaw University in the second round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship this afternoon.
 
The action started early in the match when the sophomore tandem of Adrijana Martic and Simbiat Aleem combined for an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. Virginia State answered when Christina Washington and Tamisha Richardson answered with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. However, Shaw scored an 8-2 win at #1 doubles from sophomore Daniela Vanko and junior Marilyne Kamegne that left the team on top, 2-1 heading into singles play. From there,, the Lady Bears were able to get three singles wins to secure the victory. Freshman Helena Fekete got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles while Aleem added a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles. Kamegne closed the match when she took a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles.

 
With the loss, Virginia State (15-5, 10-3 CIAA) will looking to get back to work and focus on things for next season.
