ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University men's tennis team took advantage of a home match-up with a 7-2 win against nonconference opponent Concord University. With the victory, the Trojans improve to 3-3 on the season, while CU dropped to 0-3 following this road competition.
Sultan Kenes and Jonathan Fuchs defeated CU's Javier Lietor and Stan Cohen from the No. 1 doubles position, 8-1, to set the tone for the Trojans. Marcus Smith /Alexzander Walker won the No. 2 doubles for VSU, 9-8, and Blaine Davies/Keon Halley won the No. 3 position for VSU, 8-4.
Sultan Kenes secured a victory for VSU, (6-0, 6-1), in the No. 1 single spot. Followed by Marcus Smith dropping to CU, (6-3, 1-6, 13-11) in the No. 2 single spot. The Trojans' No. 3 Jonathan Fuchs, No. 4 Blaine Davies, No. 5 Alexzander Walker all coasted past their opponents to give the team the 7-2 match win in its sixth home match and third victory of the season. William Dick secured the victory for CU (6-3, 6-4) defeating Keon Halley in the No. 6 single spot.
Virginia State will host local rival Virginia Union University in a Central intercollegiate Athletic Association match up on Sunday, March 19 at 3pm.
