SALISBURY, NC - The Virginia State Trojans (3-1, 2-0 CIAA) secured a 7- 0 victory in their second Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) match of the season against the Rams of Winston-Salem State University, Saturday morning in the 2017 CIAA Round-Up.
Doubles competition was led by Shiela James and
Sydney Yao at the No. 1 position, as the dynamic duo eliminated WSSU players Alexus Morgan and China Brown, 8-3. In the No. 2 doubles position,
Tamisha Richardson and
Christina Washington came out on top against Zakia Spencer and Cylah Gaither by a score of 8-1.
Felicia Tucker and
Charde Washington received the victory due to a forfeit loss by the Rams.
On the singles side, five Trojans rolled to two-set wins, including 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 and 6-1, 6-1 results from the No. 1 and 2 positions. The 7-0 match victory becomes the team's second CIAA conference win of the 2017 spring campaign.
VSU will be back in action later in the day for its final match of the 2017 CIAA Round-Up as they face Livingstone College.
