Box Score Ettrick, Va. (November 18, 2107) –The Virginia State University football team kicked off the NCAA Super Two Region First Round Football Playoffs by hosting the University of West Georgia Wolves. The contest ruled in favor of the Wolves, 35-9.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference champions, the Virginia State University Trojans, complete the 2017 campaign 10-1 overall, setting a new school record of finishing the regular season undefeated. University of West Georgia improves to 9-3 overall with the victory. The Wolves will face Gulf South Conference rival the University of West Florida in the NCAA second round Saturday, Nov. 25.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Matthew Hillquist had a 27-yard field goal to give the Trojans a 0-3 edge over the Wolves. The Wolves then answered with a 26-yard pass for a Wolves touchdown to take a 7-3 lead.
Second Quarter
The University of West Georgia opened the second quarter by adding a touchdown on a 43-yard pass to boost the visitors' lead to 14-3 at the 13:29 mark. The Trojans answered with a 32-yard field goal by senior Matthew Hillquist to cut the Wolves lead 14-6 at the half.
Third Quarter
Coming back from the half the Wolves continue to put up points on the scoreboard on a 6-yard run by Willie Candler to boost the lead to 21-6. The Trojans of Virginia State University then added its final points of the competition on a 26-yard field goal by Matthew Hillquist.
Fourth Quarter
The University of West Georgia added two touchdowns in the final quarter of the game. The first at the 8:01 mark on a five-yard pass. The second was at the 1:05 when Brooks Shannon charged the end zone for the final score of 35-9.
UP NEXT
Virginia State's season is complete following today's contest. The CIAA Champions will continue to work as they will start preparation for the 2018 campaign.
