Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- After a 17 game winning streak against CIAA competition, the Trojans endured their first loss to Fayetteville State University 33 - 20. The Trojans now hold an overall record of 2-2 on the season, 0-1 in the CIAA conference.
The Trojans had several players out due to injury, including starting quarterback
Tarian Ayres and 6 other starters.
The Bronco offense recorded 430 yards passing and 43 yards on the ground. Gatlin recorded 186 yards on 9 receptions and Hubert recorded 184 yards on 12 receptions. The Trojan offense passed for 202 yards and rushed for 162 yards on 37 carries
Sophomore
Walter Harold (Virginia Beach, VA) completed 11 of 22 pass attempts for 194 yards. Harold connected with senior wide receiver
Jaivon Smallwood (Virginia Beach, VA) eight times for 121 yards and a touchdown. Harold also made connections with senior wide receiver Gene Holloman (Virginia Beach, VA) twice for 64 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore
Trenton Cannon (Hampton, VA) led the Trojans in rushing recording 149 yards on 24 carries.,
Defensively junior
Lamont Britt (Norfolk, VA) ,lead the Trojans with 8 solo tackles. Sophomore
Zack Braswell (Spotsylvania, VA) and sophomore
Tyquante Simms (Petersburg, VA) recorded 5 solo tackles each for the Trojans.
The Trojans will be back in action at Rogers Stadium in Oct. 3 to take on the St. Augustine's Falcons. Kick-off is set for 2pm.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. Canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home football and volleyball games this season.
