The Trojans are 2-1 overall on the season while the Broncos are 0-3 for their first conference games of the 2015 season. Last season, the Trojans defeated the Broncos at Rogers Stadium 35 -14. FSU has not gained a victory in Rogers Stadium since 2010.
On the offensive end, the Trojans are looking to have an immediate impact and gain control over the contest early. Senior
Jaivon Smallwood (Virginia Beach, VA) will be a dual weapon for the Trojans as both wide receiver on offense and punt returner on special teams. "He's the most sure handed guy on the team. I trust him. On punt return, I just want the ball. I just want possession," explained Head Coach
Byron Thweatt in reference to Smallwood taking on the roll as punt returner this season.
Defensively, the Trojans have a strong core. Sophomore linebacker
Brandon Lynch (Norfolk, VA) leads the Trojan defense with 24 tackles total (18 solo) and 2 sacks. Junior
Trevon Byron (Virginia Beach, VA) was named CIAA defensive back of the week for his week 3 performance. Byron has recorded 22 tackles total (17 solo) on the season.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. Canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home football and volleyball games this season.
