ETTRICK, Va. - The Virginia State University Football team will travel to Murfreesboro, NC on October 31, 2015 to take on the Chowan University Hawks at 3 p.m.
The Trojans and the Hawks are evenly match with a 5-3 overall record, 3-2 in the conference.
The two teams have met four times in the history of both programs and the Trojans are currently 3-1 against the Hawks. Last season the Trojans defeated the Hawks 40-7.
Sophomore running back
Trenton Cannon (Hampton, VA) leads the Trojan offense recording 920 total rushing yards, averaging 115 per game. Last week junior running back
Kavon Bellamy (Hampton, VA) rushed for 243 yards on 22 carries and 3 touchdowns. Bellamy's performance also awarded him the CIAA Offensive Back of the Week honor.
The Hawks offense is lead by junior running back Tyree Lee who has recorded 854 total rushing yards, averaging 106.8 per game. Cannon, Bellamy, and Lee all come from high school teams in Hampton, VA making Saturday's game even more interesting to watch this group of offensive backs perform.
Defensively, the Trojans are led by junior linebacker
Geo Feggins (South Hill, VA) who has recorded 66 total tackles on the season, 46 solo, 8 for losses, and 6 sacks.
The Trojans were predicted to finish second overall in the CIAA and first in the Northern Division. The Hawks were predicted to finish ninth in the CIAA Conference and fifth in the northern division.
The Virginia State Department of Athletics annual 1,000 cans, 1 goal campaign initiative is underway. The canned food items collected will be donated to the local food banks. The Department encourages all fans, alumni, faculty and friends to bring a canned food item to all of the home volleyball and football games this season.
