The Trojans (1-2) have been relentless on defense, limiting opponents to 24 percent on third down conversations and only 435 passing yards on the season. Senior linebacker
Brandon Robinson leads VSU's stingy defensive unit with 23 total tackles, including three tackles for a loss and two sacks.
Offensively, junior receiver
Jaivon Smallwood leads Virginia State with 288 yards on 18 receptions. The Virginia Beach, Va., native ranks third in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in yards per game (96.0) and touchdowns (2). Sophomore quarterback
Tarian Ayres leads the conference in yards per game (248.7), while sitting tied for third in passing touchdowns (3).
FSU (0-3) comes into Saturday's contest after falling to Chowan University, 26-22 last weekend on the road. Quarterback Derek Bryant leads the Broncos offense with 632 yards and three passing touchdowns on the season. Michael Johnson spearheads Fayetteville's defense with 27 total tackles including four pass deflections, three pass break-ups, two tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries, and an interception.
The VSU Athletic Department continues its' "1000 Cans, One Goal" campaign initiative at every home game through Friday, Nov. 21. The purpose of the initiative is to support the local food banks in helping feed the less fortunate during the holiday season. Donors are asked to either bring can goods to any VSU Athletic home game (football, basketball, volleyball, and/or cross-country) and/or drop your items off to the Athletic Department.
