ETTRICK, VA- The Virginia State University Trojan Baseball Team went up against the Rams of Winston-Salem State University on April 19 for the 2014 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Spring Sports Championship.
The Trojans fell short of a victory with a 9-5 loss to the Rams.
VSU kicked things into high gear in the seventh inning with four runs and a single run in the ninth inning.
Sophomore
Zachery Jordan (Chesterfield, VA) led the Trojans with two RBI's, followed by junior
Nicholas Christopher (Dinwiddie, VA) and sophomore
Jamison Griffin (Newport News, VA) with single RBI's.
Christopher pitched the first 3.1 innings on the mound earnings two strikeouts. Sophomore
Colton Gunn (Dinwiddie, VA) pitched the remaining 4.2 innings earning three strikeouts. In the end Christopher was charged with the loss.
The Trojans finish this year with a 26-18 overall record, 13-7 conference after post season play.
