ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University women's tennis team earned a victory over the defending CIAA champions the Lady Bears of Shaw University in the CIAA ournament Semifinals on Friday,April 18 to advance to the championship game on Saturday.
The Trojans took two wins in doubles play to lead 2-1 over the Lady Bears heading into singles play.
Sweeping the lower matches to claim a place in the 2014 CIAA women's tennis championship, VSU's
Sharmane Tonkins earned a win in singles play, 6-0, 6-2 at the #4, while
Kayla Kale won 6-0, 6-0 at the #5 and
Jessica Smith went 6-0, 6-0 over her opponent at the #6.
The Trojans will face the Hawks of Chowan University at 10:00 am on Saturday.
