PETERSBURG, VA - The Virginia State Trojans defeated the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State, 5-1 in a hard-fought win on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.
With great effort and intensity from both teams, the Trojans pulled off the victory despite the matches lasting nearly three hours.
The Trojans opened play with three wins in doubles play as the team improved 8-3 at #1, 8-6 at #2 and 8-5 at #3.
Nakesha Harry took the first singles win, 6-1, 6-2 at #3 while
Brittany Uzzell earned a 6-2, 6-2 wins at #2 singles.
The Trojans will face the Lady Bears of Shaw University on Friday at 9:00 am.
