Box Score BOWIE, Md. – The Virginia State University football team scored 17 unanswered points after halftime to spoil Bowie State University's Homecoming, 24-14 in Bulldog Stadium, Saturday evening.
Virginia State came out the half, taking the ball 69 yards in nine plays to record three extra points off the foot of freshman place kicker
Mathew Hillquist, cutting into BSU's lead, 14-10.
Junior running back
Kavon Bellamy scored a rushing touchdown from five yards out, giving the Trojans its first lead of the ballgame, 17-14. The Bulldogs couldn't get anything going, being held to only 83 yards in the second half.

Tarian Ayres at the 11:18 mark of the fourth quarter, capping the 24-14 contest.
Neither team was able to make anything happen on their first two drives of the ballgame. The Bulldogs got on the board first, connecting on a pass from nine-yards out after going 75 yards in 10 plays on its third drive of the contest to take the 7-0 lead.
Bowie added its second score at the 4:59 mark in the second quarter, before the Trojans capped a seven play 28-yard touchdown drive, making it 14-7 at the 3:38 mark of the ballgame.
Bellamy finished the game with 72 yards on 24 carries; including a rushing and receiving touchdown on the day. Senior linebacker
Brandon Robinson collected nine tackles; including two tackles for a loss and a sack.
The Trojans return to action Saturday, Oct. 25 hosting The Lincoln University for VSU's 2014 Homecoming. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. (ET).

The VSU Athletic Department continues its' "1000 Cans, One Goal" campaign initiative at every home game through Friday, Nov. 21. The purpose of the initiative is to support the local food banks in helping feed the less fortunate during the holiday season. Donors are asked to either bring can goods to any VSU Athletic home game (football, basketball, volleyball, and/or cross-country) and/or drop your items off to the Athletic Department.
