Virginia State University's women's tennis team defeated Virginia Union University in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 CIAA Women's Tennis Tournament 6-0 on Thursday, April 19th.
The Lady Trojans swept through three doubles matches and three singles matches, winning 6-0.
Nakesha Harry (freshman/ St. Vincent, West Indies) defeated Katrina Joe (6-0, 6-4) in the number three singles. Valencia Williams (junior/ Norfolk, VA) won (6-2, 6-1) over VUU's DeJamine Byrson in the number four singles, while Alexis McDowell (freshman/ Suffolk, VA) picked up a win in the number six singles over Shacoya Patrick (6-1, 6-0).
VSU's Amanda Spencer, Zaire Simmons, and Sharmane Tonkins all played unfinished matches, but the Lady Trojans easily walked away with a 6-0 sweep.
The Lady Trojans advance to the semifinal round to meet the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Friday at 9:00 a.m.
