Coach Gilbert will be entering her 3rd season as the VSU Head Softball Coach.
During her 2 year tenure, the softball team compiled 24 win and 12 loss record in the CIAA.
In the first year, the softball team placed 3rd in the Northern Division of the CIAA. During the CIAA tournament, the team dropped its first two games.
During the second year of Coach Gilbert’s tenure, the team placed 2nd in the Northern Division, behind perennial Northern Division Champion, Chowan. During the CIAA Tournament, the team made it to the semi-finals, losing to the number 1 seed Claflin.
Prior to her arrival to VSU, Gilbert coached varsity softball on the high school level for 25 years. She began her coaching career at Manchester High School, where she coached for 18 years. During this time, her teams compiled seven district titles, 17 regional appearances, one regional title and one state title. She was also named coach of the year five times during those years, and selected to coach in the Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. During her coaching career, her teams have compiled 270 wins.
Gilbert is a native of Chesterfield, Va. and attended Longwood College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. In 2010, she obtained her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Commonwealth University. Gilbert also received her certification as a national board certified teacher.
