Samantha Edwards joins the Virginia State University athletic staff as a Graduate Assistant for the 2013-2014 seasons, while she completes her Masters in Biology. The VSU Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field school record holder in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay, Edwards claimed 10 NCAA All-American honors and a National Championship in the women’s 400m dash during her tenure at VSU. Later in 2013, Samantha was able to represent her grandfather’s home country of Antigua and win their national championships and compete internationally during the summer.
“I am very excited to have Samantha with us as a part of the VSU Track & Field Staff. As the most decorated VSU women’s Track & Field Student-Athlete in school history; she now gets to see what’s on the other side of the spectrum as it relates to practice, planning, implementation and administration of the social and group dynamics of a Cross country / Track & Field program. Her recent international experience brings a great amount of excitement and encouragement to our student-athletes here at VSU. I am confident that she will do an excellent job in assisting Coach Hayes and I during this year” added Head Coach Jason-Lamont Jackson.
Edwards, a native of Long Island, NY, hopes to represent Antigua at the 2014 Indoor World Championships and the 2014 Outdoor Commonwealth Games.
