Nadia Alexander

Coach Alexander begins her second year (third season) with the Trojan T&F Athletic Staff, as the Throws Coach, focusing on Shot Put, Discus and Javelin.  In just a short turn around, the VSU throws program has made a name for itself in the CIAA Conference. 

During the 2012 Indoor and Outdoor Seasons, Coach Alexander‘s throwers earned 13 ALL CIAA Performances, many of them achieving personal bests in their respective throwing events. Coach Alexander, along with Assistant Coach Jernail Hayes facilitates the Trojan Track & Field Strength Program.

Head Coach Jason-Lamont Jackson stated…“The 2012-2013 year for our VSU Throws program will be the best ever! Coach Alexander has done a tremendous job and I expect that our throws program will be tops in the conference!  The student-athletes work hard and follow her lead; it’s been an amazing transformation to watch over the past two years, excitement cannot even describe how I feel about what she has done for this throws program, I’m looking forward to the 2013 season.”

Alexander is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where she received her Bachelors of Arts degree in General Studies with a concentration in social sciences while competing for the Lady Techsters, she was a finalist in the shot put at the Commonwealth Games in India (2010) while representing Jamaica.  She has compiled a solid resume as a competitor as she was sixth in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games last year, 10th in the NCAA Outdoors in 2009, 9th in the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil and a three-time Conference champion for Louisiana Tech.  Alexander still holds the Indoor (16.34m – 53’ 6”) and Outdoor (16.68m – 54’8”) Shot Put records at Louisiana Tech.  

Coach Alexander, a native of Kingston Jamaica, received her Master’s Degree in Sports Management at VSU in May 2012, and resides in Petersburg. She has her USATF level 1 Coaching Certification and USTFCCCA Specialist Certification 304 in the Throwing Events.  Alexander is currently training in hopes of competing at the 2013 CAC Championships in Trinidad and World Championships in Moscow Russia, where she will represent her father’s homeland of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
