Brandon Kirksey is entering his third season as the Defensive Line Coach/Community Relations Coordinator at VSU. Kirksey helped the Trojans to an undefeated regular season (10-0) in 2017, where the Trojans claimed the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football Championship title.
Prior to VSU, Kirksey brought five years of experience to the Trojans coaching staff as he has coached on the high school and collegiate level. He spent some time on the Lincoln University (MO) football staff where he served as the Defensive Line Coach, Director of Player Personnel, Community Relations Coordinator, and Interim Strength and Conditioning Coach (2014).
He began his coaching career at Soldan High School where he served as the defensive line specialist in 2012.
In 2014, Kirksey coached Davin Walls, an All-GLVC first team selection and Don Hansen All-Regional honoree. Walls signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Jets in 2015 and appeared in two preseason games. Kirksey also coaches several top ranked athletes to include Cecil Frison, Darryl Blackmon, and Eric Howard.
Originally from St. Louis, Mo. where he started at Hazelwood East High School, Kirksey was a four-year letter winner at the University of Minnesota and the Golden Gophers Defensive Lineman of the Year Award. Kirksey was also a recipient of Minnesota’s Tony Dungy Character and Community Service Award.
After being brought into camp as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings, Kirksey was the MVP of the year for the Milwaukee Mustangs (AFL) 2012-2013.
Brandon earned bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Law and Criminology Deviance from the University of Minnesota in 2012.
